PROBLEM

Develop The mobile app for the North West Europe & Nordics market. The primary objective for the platform is to drive recruitment and brand love. The specific objectives for the mobile app are:

— Extend the platform providing further functionality not available on the other channels.
— Push content alerts based on consumer passions.
— Become the main Coca-Cola app for all integrated marketing communications apps and brand content.

The app works on 3 main platforms: iOS (iPhone & iPad), BlackBerry and Android tablet. The consumer takeaway is one Coke app that keeps sending cool stuff, including games linked to the Olympics and Euro. The app keeps updating with loads of new features. The design challenge is to create a design language to work across the different platforms within the timeframe. Develop bespoke tools or buy existing services (QR, Barcode, Can Readers, Location Based Services).

The app was developed outsourcing the build to a company based in another country. Detailed and precise design documentation were essential to speed up the process and meet the short deadlines.
